Terrific Multi-Patented Housewares Product

Three years and several million dollars later the former owner of a large, successful engineering/product development business is enjoying one last hoorah before retiring. He has retained Praxis Business Brokers to find the perfect buyer for a unique, functional, attractive, patented, trademarked housewares product designed for both residential and office use.

The engineer/seller is the most organized client Praxis Business Brokers has had the privilege to represent in our 20 (+) years of business brokerage. Over the past several years, the seller has conceived, prototyped and tested a combination original design toilet plunger and cleaning brush (both patented) that are offered in an attractive, distinctive stand which both hides the concealed components and makes cleanliness part of the equation.

The seller hired a large marketing firm to conduct a national market survey while simultaneously developing a marketing program with dedicated photography, videos, content, an attractive website and custom packaging, all of which are included in the sale. The 11 individual plastic parts forming the plunger are injected in multi-cavity molds and fixtures with everything (i.e. all tools, molds, fixtures, etc.) included in the sale.

The product and its parts have been protected (at a significant cost) by a combination of a design patent, patents pending and a registered trademark, all included in the offering. The market tests to date have been overwhelmingly positive with nearly 80% of those surveyed expressing “likely to purchase” feedback.

The seller has arranged for a sister company to do all the procuring, manufacturing, packaging and shipping for the buyer for an all-in $17.00 unit price. The buyer, as owner of all fixtures, molds, tools, patents and inventory can elect to do all the production himself or continue having the sister company private label manufacturing and shipping the product on the buyer’s behalf.

The marketing company successfully established the product both as an Amazon product and as an Amazon seller account. Additionally, the marketing company has secured pre-approved vendor status with Lowe’s; tentative approval from Menard’s pending “aisle reorganization;” and a strong interest from ACE Hardware at both the corporate and franchise levels.
